Don’t be fooled by the sweeping ache of Cold Specks’ Al Spx. Sure, her bruised-heart, confessional lyrics, and the gorgeous, gloomy soul that spills from her slight body will shake you to the core. And yes, Cold Specks’ debut record, I Predict a Graceful Expulsion, is the perfect record for long, lonely nights. But these things reveal just one aspect to Spx’s complex character. The young Toronto-based singer-songwriter is actually pretty damn funny. I met her last year during an interview for Exclaim, and it was one of the most fascinating hour’s of my life. I asked Spx to answer the 15th installment of Pop This Q&A, and I’m so happy she did.
